Air Admittance Valves (WC)
This type of valve is one that can be used instead of the normal siphon type of valve for the loo. This valve can be fitted by Plumbers . The valve itself is basically the same as a non return type. It allows air to enter your system but will not let (bad smelling air) from escaping into the atmosphere around your loo area. When a negative pressure is inside a drainage system, these type of valves open instead of the water being sucked out from the trap. Air admittance valves are come in a whole range of sizes and sometimes the main discharge stack itself is terminated with this type of valve perhaps in a loft. The fitting of this type of valve actually overcomes the need to run the highest point of the discharge stack out through the roof. The admittance valve is generally used where there are two soil stacks in the same building or when or where there quite a few buildings that are in close proximity to each other. This ensures that there is no additional work required for tiles etc. and it also makes sure that rainwater is not able to enter the building. An air admittance valve should always be fitted above the spill over level of the appliance (the spill-level is the highest possible water level of the nearest adjacent appliance). A Plumber is familiar with this type of valve and can fit them. If this is not done and blockage will occur in the pipe, this fitting will be subject to a backup of water which will result in the valve not being in a watertight state. Finally, if theses valves are fitted i exposed locations for example a loft, they will need to be well insulated so that they do not freeze up, as there is a considerable amount of condensation that builds build up in the pipework.
