When Your Combi Boiler loses Pressure
Low pressure is quite straightforward and easy to spot as most boilers today are fitted with pressure a gauge fitted inside them. Despite the pressure in our mains network the plumbing arrangements for the water pipes in your home may drastically reduce that pressure by the time it finds its way to your taps. Lost pressure may be due to a water leak or even an expansion vessel failure of some description causing damage to the pressure relief valve. Plumbers are fully qualified to diagnose and rectify all boiler problems effectively. Water pressure is important to maintain the efficient functioning of your boiler system. Pressure in most modern combi boilers is maintained by the flow of cold water through a mechanism known as the filling loop. Check your boilers instructions to see whether you can re-pressurise your boiler yourself through this mechanism. When it is not possible to manually re-pressurise the boiler you will have to follow these guidelines:Start the re-pressurising process by identifying the filling loop and also the pressure gauge. Ensure that the pressure gauge can be seen while accessing the filling loop (the ideal pressure for any sealed system is 1.5 bar). The filling loop will have a silver flexible tubes with two handles, in the off position the handles will be across the flow of the pipe. You will need to slowly turn them so they are lined up with the pipe. You should now hear the water flowing through into the boiler. Check the pressure gauge as it climbs into the green coloured area or the 1.5 bar marker. Now return the handles back to their original position. Be careful not to over pressurise the system. If you continue to have pressure problems after you re-pressurise your boiler, a Plumber will be happy to carry out this task for you with work that carries a comprehensive guarantee.
